Multimedia Troubleshooting

The multimedia components of Financial Literacy 101 are designed to work with virtually any computer or internet connection. If you are having a problem, please review the information below:

Can't hear audio - First, make sure the media playback controller's volume is not set too low - this is the bar that appears below the multimedia modules with play, pause, and volume controls. If you try to play the multimedia modules and do not see the controller, your computer may not have Flash installed. Please download the latest version from Adobe. Flash technology is required for the multimedia presentations, so you cannot take the multimedia version course on devices such as the iPad. You may, however, complete the text-only version on of the course without the Flash player.

If Flash is installed on your computer and you still cannot hear audio, you will need to explore your computer's audio set up. Please verify that your computer's audio system is working by trying to hear audio on another website such as You Tube, which uses the same media technology as this course. If you cannot hear audio at You Tube, there is likely a problem with your computer and/or configuration. Please make sure your speakers are turned on and that the computer's audio output is not muted. On PCs, check the speaker icon in the task tray in the lower right of the screen and make sure it is set to the highest level. On Macs, click the Apple menu icon and select System Preferences, then click "Sound." Make sure "Output Volume" is at the highest level and that "Mute" is not checked.

If you can hear audio at a site such as You Tube but not for this course, please make sure that the media controller's volume setting is at it's highest level during multimedia playback.

Modules are "stuck" - If you find that a module will not advance to the end so that a "Next" button appears, there could be a couple of issues. First, if you are fast forwarding a module, you will need to allow 15-20 seconds at the end of the module to allow the slides to catch up. This is the most common cause of stuck media.

Another source of stuck media can be due to faulty browser caching. The easiest solution if you feel that media caching could be a problem is to simply login to the course using a different browser. For example, if you are using Internet Explorer, try Firefox, Google Chrome, or Safari. Most computers have more than one browser installed and downloading a new one is quick and easy (we suggest Google Chrome).

If you cannot try a new browser, please close all browser windows and login to the course again. If that does not fix your problem, please clear your browser's cache manually.

If none of these suggestions fixes your media problem, please contact us. Occasionally, there may be a network problem at your school that we can assist in solving.

Slides are not synchronized with audio - The course will work with a dial-up connection, but we highly recommend a constant high-speed Internet connection for the best experience. If you are using a broadband connection are are still experiencing problems, there may be a network congestion issue or an issue with your computer that is beyond our control. Please select the "Text Only" option that's available from your My Account page.

Media Does Not Resume After Pausing - Users with older versions of Flash may find that paused media does not resume after they leave the course (for example, to check email or have an instant message conversation) and come back later. To fix this issue, update the computer's Flash program or simply nudge the "Playhead" to resume the presentation.

Browser Compatibility - This course is compatible with over 99% of all computers. We recommend the latest versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox or Google Chrome for PC and Safari for Macintosh.
